The Guanajuato mint struck eight escudos for Mexico 1825-70 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most dates are common. This specimen was lot 22324 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1870 Go-FR, AU58 NGC Caballero de las Yndias, nicely struck details including the eagle and book, considerable mint luster in the legends."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, .875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
