This specimen was lot 1374 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €150 (about US$209 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), AR 5 francs, 1849. Tête laurée. Fines griffes au revers. Superbe. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, silver five francs of 1849, laureate head, hairlines on the reverse, Extremely Fine.)"
Two types of five francs are recorded for 1849: this type, the scarcer, was issued 1847-49 and KM 17, issued 1849-65.
Recorded mintage: 3,014,000 plus 3,909,000 of KM 17.
Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, lettered edge.
