Künker Auction 440, lot 3574

This specimen was lot 3574 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €25 (about US$34 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Wilhelm I., 1816-1864. 3 Kreuzer 1818. Mit großer Krone auf der Vorderseite, die Rückseite mit KOENIGL : und der Lorbeerkranz mit 12 Beeren. Schrötlingsfehler auf der Vorderseite, sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Meister & Sonntag 2, Stuttgart 2004, Nr. 2740. (kingdom of Württemberg, William I, 1816-64, three kreuzer of 1818. Obverse: large crown; reverse: "KOENIGL :" and laurel wreath with twelve berries. Small planchet defect on the obverse, very fine.)"

King William began his reign as a liberal, granting Württemberg a constitution and reforming taxes, customs duties and agriculture, but grew reactionary after the revolutions of 1848. The convention thaler, last struck in 1818, was 120 kreuzer. This type was struck 1818 only.
