H3089-33041r.jpg

This specimen was lot 33041 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy. Venice. Ludovico Manin Ducatone ND (1789)-GF MS62 PCGS. A very rare state of preservation for this crown-sized Venetian emission, fielding a pervasive luster that roles across the surfaces, while the legends display minimal doubling and die polish abounds throughout." Ducatoni were struck intermittently throughout the eighteenth century. This issue of 1789 is the last. The ducatone was heavier than the ducato (Dav-1574) and tallero (Dav-1575) but lighter than the scudo (Dav-1570). A half ducatone also exists for this doge (KM 744).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.10 g, 0.948 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 748, Paolucci-131.24, Dav-1572.
