Sincona sale 33, lot 2949

This specimen was lot 2949 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIA | Venice. Lodovico Manin, 1789-1797 10 Zecchini s. d. B/BB. Tracce di montatura. (republic of Venice, Lodovico Manin, 1789-97, undated ten zecchini. Good to fine, trace of mounting.)"

The republic of Venice invented the ducat in the late 1200's and issued them more or less continuously until the final collapse in 1797. This is a rare type, tho the single ducat is common. This doge also minted one quarter, one half, one (Fr-1445), two (Fr-1444), five, six, eight (Fr-1441), nine, twelve, twenty, thirty (Fr-1438a), fifty and 105 zecchini in gold.
