Venice (1789)-GF ducato Dav-1574
This specimen was lot 42471 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Venice. Ducato, ND (1789)-GF. Venice Mint. Ludovico Manin. PCGS MS-62. Rather well centered on a flan of good metal, this crown from the waning years of the Venetian Republic presents a great deal of glistening brilliance remaining along with some charming steely gray hues. Hard to rival, it represents the only such occurrence of the type with this mintmaster in the PCGS census." This is not a rare type as Venetian coins go but this is the second example we have been able to find for this site. It is known with mintmaster's initials GF (shown here), AD, AZ, DC, AC, FB and DB. Some are dated.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 23.40 g, 0.826 fine silver, 40 mm diameter.
