Sincona sale 69, lot 894

This specimen was lot 894 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 950 CHF (about US$1,261 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"THE NETHERLANDS | Utrecht, Provinz. 7 Gulden 1763. 1/2 Goldener Reiter - 1/2 Gouden rijder. Vorzüglich. (Netherlands, province of Utrecht, seven gulden of 1763. half golden rider. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck in this province 1749-51, 1760-63. Despite the short span of issue, all seven of the United Provinces issued this type and it remained popular for a long time.

Recorded mintage: 211,000 for 1760-63 (including the 14 gulden).
