SB626-11156r.jpg

This specimen was lot 11156 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €292.80 (about US$338). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Skilling Banco, 1845/4. Stockholm Mint. Oskar I. NGC MS-64 Red Brown. Attractive near-gem example of this overdate variety. From the L.E. Bruun Collection." In the reform of 1830, the sixth and third riksdalers were dropped for eighth, quarter and half riksdalers. The skilling, formerly 1/48 riksdaler, became 1/128 riksdaler. The copper coinage included four, two, one, 2/3, 1/3 and 1/6 skilling pieces. This type of 1844-45 is not rare. All of the 1845's are overdates. Later skillings (KM 671) used a modified bust.

Recorded mintage: 96,576, a better date.

Specification: 11.3 g, copper, 27.8 mm diameter, this specimen 11.03 g.

Catalog reference: KM-659; SM-89; Delzanno-93; Bruun-13440.
