Sweden 1846/4-AG 1/4 riksdaler
This specimen was lot 31009 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Oscar I 1/4 Riksdaler 1846/4-AG, MS64 NGC. Deeply toned and fully original. An attractive example of this underrated type. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." In the reform of 1830, the sixth and third riksdalers were dropped for eighth, quarter and half riksdalers. The skilling, formerly 1/48 riksdaler, became 1/128 riksdaler. The smallest silver denomination, the 1/32 riksdaler, was four skilling. This type was minted 1846 (only the overdate is known), 1848 and 1852. The denomination was retired in the reform of 1855.
