Sweden 1845-AG 1/16 riksdaler
This specimen was lot 31008 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $558.13. The catalog description[1] noted, "Oscar I 1/16 Riksdaler 1845-AG, MS65 NGC. A spectacular example of this key low-mintage date with rich cabinet patina and full mint brilliance. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." In the reform of 1830, the sixth and third riksdalers were dropped for eighth, quarter and half riksdalers. The skilling, formerly 1/48 riksdaler, became 1/128 riksdaler. The smallest silver denomination, the 1/32 riksdaler, was four skilling. Oscar succeeded to the throne in 1844 and this type was struck 1845-55 and is common in circulated condition. It was dropped in the reform of 1855.
