This specimen was lot 31810 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $305.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Oscar I 1/3 Skilling 1846, MS65 Red Brown NGC. A lovely early copper piece with virtually full mint brilliance and well-struck details. Seldom seen in this elite grade. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." Prior to the reform of 1830, 48 skilling = one riksdaler; after 1830, 128 skilling = one riksdaler specie. As a result the skilling was reduced from 28.3 g to 11.3 g. This is a common date of a type struck 1844-55. The denomination was terminated in 1855.
