Sincona sale 87, lot 3095

This specimen was lot 3095 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,481 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEDEN, Friedrich I. 1720-1751. 2 Mark 1722, Stockholm. Mir der Signatur GZ (Georg Zedritz, Münzmeister in Stockholm, 1722-1723 und 1730-1738). Selten. NGC AU58. Feine Patina. (kingdom of Sweden, Frederick I, 1720-51, two marks of 1722, Stockholm mint, with mintmaster's initials GZ. Rare, Nicely toned.)"

This type was struck 1720-22 and 1731-37 but always in small numbers, suggesting the country was starved of bullion. However, copper plate money was exported in large quantities.

Recorded mintage: 26,000.

Specification: 10.4 g, 0.694 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 385, Delzanno 92, AAH 113.
