This specimen was lot 2081 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1092.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "1730 2 escudos. Madrid mint. EF-40 (NGC). Types as above. Even yellow gold, bright from cleaning and hairlined. Sharp for the issue. Purchased from Watkins Coin Company, July 1943." Spanish two escudos are somewhat more common than their Latin American counterparts and this issue is no exception. The portrait type was struck in Madrid 1730-34, Seville 1730-42 and extended to the Mexico City mint in 1732.
