Aureo y Calicó sale 423, lot 1452

This specimen was lot 1452 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 900 € (about US$1,165 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1731. Felipe V. Seville. PA. 2 escudos. Attractive. Patina. Very rare, we have only had three examples like this. MBC+ [choice very fine]." This portrait type was struck in Madrid 1730-34, Seville 1730-42 and extended to the Mexico City mint in 1732.
