This specimen was lot 3090 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $3,220. The catalog description[1] noted, "1734/3 MF 2 escudos. Mexico City mint. AU-55 (NGC). Types as above. Even medium gold some traces of orange toning and good lustre remaining in protected areas. A few scattered hairlines, a very attractive example. Bold overdate. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. This type was struck 1732-47 and is the only type with the bust of Philip V. The SCWC records only the overdate for this year and no regular date.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.917 fine gold, .199 troy oz AGW. This specimen: 6.75 grams, 23.10 mm diameter.
