This specimen was lot 21582 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 4 Escudos, 1597-S B. Seville Mint. Philip II. PCGS AU-53 Gold Shield. Quite RARE with a partially visible date, this piece presents a fairly strong central strike, with elements of the peripheries also observed. Likely deposited not long after it was produced, as little evidence of handling or circulation is noted." This type was struck undated and 1589-97.
