Toledo Mint. Philip II. PCGS AU-53. Though crudely struck on an irregular planchet, this Spanish Cob is quite well-preserved and displays pleasing detail. On the left of the obverse, the mintmark, assayer, and denomination are decipherable. On the opposite side, the full date appears with great clarity. The reverse has large areas of weak strike, but the central octolobes with castles and lions are well-presented and clear. An attractively original coin with light toning and luster. From the Pat Johnson Collection." Toledo was a prolific mint, striking coins by the hammer until the 1650's. Assayer C is listed for 1592-1613.
