This specimen was lot 23037 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $282. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. 2 1/2 Shillings, 1936. ICG MS-62. A handsome piece showing bright luster, light tone and a sharp strike. A fairly scarce coin at this level and above." The half crowns of George V were minted 1923-36 with this subtype struck 1931-36. This is a common date.
Recorded mintage: 553,000 plus 40 proofs.
