This specimen was lot 32313 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $2,520. The catalog description[1] noted, "South Africa: George V Proof 2-1/2 Shillings 1934 PR64 PCGS. Just one point lower than the highest certified examples, this choice Proof exhibits a light tone over dazzlingly glossy fields, the patina turning vibrant and exploding into reds, greens and yellows at the peripheries. Supposedly just 24 of these proofs were ever produced, rendering this offering a significant modern rarity worthy of pronounced collector attention. From the Feeling Good Collection." The 2½ shillings or half crown was struck in South Africa 1923-60. It was 0.800 fine silver until 1930 and 0.500 fine thereafter. The first issue (KM 19.1) varies from this type by having "2½ SHILLINGS 2½" in the reverse legend.

Recorded mintage: 416,000 plus 24 proofs.

Specification: 14.14 g, 0.500 fine silver, 32.3 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 19.3.
