Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 46062

This specimen was lot 46062 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. 2 Shillings, 1934. NGC AU-58. A wholesome, well struck coin with nearly unbroken luster and a pleasing gray toning with a hint of plum color." The two shillings or florin was struck in South Africa 1923-60. It was 0.800 fine silver until 1930 and 0.500 fine thereafter. In 1931, the "FLORIN" on the reverse was changed to "2 SHILLINGS" (see KM 18 for the prior type).

Recorded mintage: 559,000 + 24 proofs.

Specification: 11.31 g, 0.500 fine silver, 28.5 mm diameter.
