Southern Rhodesia 1934 1/2 crown
This specimen was lot 72770 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTHERN RHODESIA. 1/2 Crown, 1934. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. A nicely preserved example of the type with good eye appeal and attractive patina highlighted iridescent hues in the protected areas." Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. The colony was federated with Northern Rhodesia in 1956 but is now Zimbabwe. This type was struck 1932-36 only and this is the scarcest date.
