Southern Rhodesia 1935 1/2 crown
This specimen was lot 32319 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "Southern Rhodesia: British Colony. George V 1/2 Crown 1935 MS64 NGC. An exquisite offering with an even somewhat mottled cabinet tone and clear underlying luster. This piece is currently among the very finest seen by NGC, with only a single example grading higher." Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. The colony was federated with Northern Rhodesia in 1956 but is now Zimbabwe. This type was struck 1932-36 only.
