This specimen was lot 47640 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTHERN RHODESIA. 3 Pence, 1935. George V. NGC MS-65." Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. The threepence was introduced in 1932 and struck intermittently until 1952. It was converted to copper-nickel in 1947. This type is known for 1932-36 and this is the scarcest date.
Recorded mintage: 840,000 plus proofs.
