Southern Rhodesia 1932 3 pence
This specimen was part of lot 25796 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), which sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V Proof Set 1932, the standard 5 pieces (Threepence, Sixpence, Shilling, 2-Shillings, and Halfcrown), each graded PR64 by PCGS, with matching natural iridescent golden gray toning on the mirrored surfaces." Southern Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. The colony was federated with Northern Rhodesia in 1956 but is now Zimbabwe. This type was struck 1932-36 only.
