Southern Rhodesia 1932 2 shillings

Sincona sale 11, lot 2459

This specimen was lot 2459 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 310 CHF (about US$384 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"RHODESIEN George V. 1910-1936. 2 Shilling 1932. FDC aus Polierter Platte. (Southern Rhodesia, George V, 1910-36. two shillings of 1932, choice proof.)"

Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. The colony was federated with Northern Rhodesia in 1956 but is now Zimbabwe. This type was struck 1932-36 only.

Recorded mintage: 498,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 11.31 g, 0.925 fine silver, reeded edge, this specimen 11.32 g.
