This specimen was lot 22686 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $9,987.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V 1/4 Penny 1936, MS64 BN NGC, impeccably sharp design features with rich glossy brown surfaces, very rare date with a mintage of 43. Although certified as MS, we believe that this example is Proof. Of the 43 pieces minted, 40 were included in Proof Sets and 3 may have been trial strikes." This type was struck 1923-36 with several modifications to the reverse. This subtype of 1931-36 was struck for circulation 1931-32 and 1935 only, the other dates being for presentation sets. The half penny and penny are not so rare.
