This specimen was lot 75654 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. Penny, 1936. Pretoria Mint. George V. NGC AU-58. Crowned portrait of king George V. Popular reverse design of a 19th century frigate." The South African pennies of George V run 1923-36 with this subtype issued 1931-36. It is common. The ship on the reverse is a bark from the 17th century, not the 19th century.

Recorded mintage: 1,819,000 plus 40 proofs.

Specification: 9.5 g, bronze, 30.8 mm diameter.
