This specimen was lot 2437 in Goldberg sale 106 (Los Angeles, September 2018), where it sold for $53. The catalog description[1] noted, "South Africa. 3 Pence, 1936. George V. PCGS graded MS-64." The threepence was first struck for South Africa in 1923. In 1931, the reverse was modified to read "3 D" instead of "3 PENCE" and struck in this form until 1936.
Recorded mintage: 1,095,000 + 40 proofs.
Specification: 1.41 g, 0.800 fine silver, 16 mm diameter.
