This specimen was lot 23026 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $646.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. Shilling, 1929. NGC MS-63. Blistering white luster, not a trace of tone anywhere on the coin, has the look of being struck yesterday. Ex: Bakewell Collection." The shillings of George V come in three styles: KM 17.1, with "1 SHILLING 1" on the reverse, struck 1923-24; KM 17.2 (shown here), with "SHILLING" on the reverse, struck 1926-30; and KM 17.3, with "SUID AFRIKA" on the reverse, struck 1931-36. The shilling was debased to 0.500 fine in 1951.

Recorded mintage: 926,000, the most common date for KM 17.2.

Specification: 5.85 g, 0.800 fine silver, 23.6 mm diameter.
