Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 46061

This specimen was lot 46061 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. 2 Shillings, 1929. PCGS AU-53 Gold Shield. KM-18. A wholesome and dark gray toned Florin with no distracting marks." The two shillings or florin was struck in South Africa 1923-60. It was 0.800 fine silver until 1930 and 0.500 fine thereafter. In 1931, the "FLORIN" on the reverse was changed to "2 SHILLINGS" (KM 22).

Recorded mintage: 648,000.

Specification: 11.31 g, 0.800 fine silver, 28.5 mm diameter.
