South Africa 1930 shilling
This specimen was lot 31671 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V Shilling 1930 MS65 PCGS. This gorgeous offering presents sparkling argent surfaces flaring with vibrant luster, radiating outwards into a ring of gold darkening to burnt sienna at the peripherals. The highest certified example save for one across both NGC and PCGS." The shillings of George V come in three styles: KM 17.1, with "1 SHILLING 1" on the reverse, struck 1923-24; KM 17.2 with "SHILLING" on the reverse, struck 1926-30 (shown here); and KM 17.3, with "SUID AFRIKA" on the reverse, struck 1931-36. The shilling was debased to 0.500 fine in 1951.
