Saxony 1662-CR thaler Dav-7617
This specimen was lot 995 in Jean Elsen sale 165 (Brussels, June 2026), where it sold for €600 (about US$826 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, SAXE, Johann Georg II (1656-1680), AR Taler, 1662 CR, Dresde. D/ B. de l'électeur à d., vêtu d'un manteau d'hermine, ten. une grande épée sur l'épaule. À d., le bonnet d'électeur. R/ Grand écu surmonté de huit heaumes. Léger défaut de flan au revers. Très Beau à Superbe. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, John George II, 1656-80, silver thaler of 1662, Dresden mint. light planchet defect on the reverse, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
In addition to this type, struck 1658-80, the SCWC notes a klippe thaler struck for the wedding of the elector's daughter (Dav-7631). The similar Dav-7619 has a plumed helmet on the table instead of the electoral cap shown here.
