Künker sale 406, lot 4365

This specimen was lot 4365 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €420 (about US$551 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Johann Georg II. 1656-1680. Reichstaler 1664, Dresden. Erbländischer Taler. Feine Patina, kl. Stempelfehler, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, John George II, 1656-80, "hereditary" thaler of 1664, Dresden mint. Fine patina, small die defects, about extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1658-80 and is fairly common. It was issued concurrently with Dav-7619, which shows a plumed helmet on the table instead of the electoral cap shown here. Confusingly, the SCWC cross-references both KM 474 and KM 476 to Dav-7617.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 29,13 g.

Catalog reference: KM 474, Dav-7617; Schnee 909; Clauß/Kahnt 388.
