This specimen was lot 22699 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $384 The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 1/4 Taler, 1630. Johann Georg I (1615-56). PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Augsburg Confession commemorative. Bold with abundant luster and light gray toning throughout." This commemorative quarter thaler was one of a series of silver and gold coins ranging from 1/8 thaler (KM-405) all the way up to twelve ducats (Fr-2692). A regular issue quarter thaler (KM 407) also exists for 1630.
