This specimen was lot 10347 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $411. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1629-HI. Chemnitz Mint. Johann Georg I (1615-56). Toned. EXTREMELY FINE." Saxony, one of the larger divisions of Germany and blessed with numerous silver mines, issued large numbers of thalers. This type was issued 1620-38. It is not rare but is less common than issues of the previous reign.
