Sincona sale 20, lot 2485

This specimen was lot 2485 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 1,600 (about US$2,005 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Doppeltalerklippe 1630. Auf das Armbrustschiessen anlässlich der Vermählung seiner Tochter Maria Elisabeth mit Friedrich III. von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (klippe double thaler of 1630, on the wedding of the duke's daughter Maria Elisabeth to Frederick II of Holstein-Gottrop. Very fine or better.)" Like most double thalers of the seventeenth century, this issue is rare and expensive.
