SB824-46123r.jpg

This specimen was lot 46123 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1620-HvR. Dresden Mint. Johann Georg I. NGC AU-50." This type was struck 1620-38 and is fairly common. A very similar thaler, Dav-7591, with the obverse legend ending "CLIV:ETMONT:", was also struck in 1620. We don't see the "HvR" mintmaster's initials listed in the SCWC for this date.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-7601; KM-132.
