Saxony 1620 goldgulden Fr-2680
This specimen was lot 3742 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €8,000 (about US$10,783 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Johann Georg I. 1615-1656. Goldgulden 1620, Dresden. Geharnischtes Hüftbild r. mit der Rechten das Schwert schulternd, mit der Linken den Helm mit Federbusch vor sich haltend//Verziertes, vierfeldiges Wappen mit Mittelschild. GOLD. RR Vorzügliches Exemplar mit feiner Tönung. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, John George I, 1615-56, goldgulden of 1620, Dresden mint. Obverse: armored half-length bust with sword and helmet; reverse: quartered arms with escutcheon. Rare, extremely fine example with fine gold toning.)"
This type was struck 1615-20, 1625, 1632, 1641, with various mintmarks. It was accompanied by a thaler (Dav-7591).
