Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 75616
SB1122-75616r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75616 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 50 Kopeks, 1924. Leningrad (St. Petersburg) Mint. NGC MS-64. Rigid circular luster spirals around both faces of this attractive minor. Mottled amber and lilac overtone coats mainly argent surfaces, establishing originality beyond a doubt, while the fields remain impeccably clean for the grade." This type was struck in 1924 only but in sufficient quantity that it is not rare today. The SCWC mentions two assayers, PL and TP, but as the initials are inscribed on the edge, we can't tell who appears here.

Recorded mintage: 26,559,000 (PL) plus 40,000,000 (TP).

Specification: 9.99 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-Y89.1.
