Sincona sale 19, lot 1012

This specimen was lot 1012 in Sincona sale 19 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 8,000 (about US$10,026 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "¼ Kopeck 1916, St. Petersburg Mint. Rare. Cabinet piece. Choice brilliant proof. Collector’s note: “RRRR. Proof” Ex Sotheby's auction “Extremely Important Russian Collection”, 08.10.1969, from lot 804." This type was minted at St. Petersburg 1908-14 with mintmark and 1915-16 without, after which the denomination was dropped.

Recorded mintage: 1,200,000.
