Goldberg NY International sale 59, lot 2231

The first specimen was lot 2231 in Goldberg's NY International sale 59 (New York, January 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "20 Kopecks 1916 BC. Authenticated and graded by NGC MS 66 (# 2112955-013). Bold, crisply defined devices in near pristine fields. Superb Gem brilliant uncirculated." This is a common date of a type struck 1915-17. The previous sub-type (KM Y22.a.1) bore the St. Petersburg mintmark. Russia surrendered to the Germans in 1917 amid the chaos of the October revolution and the silver coinage quickly ceased.

Specification: 3.6 g, 0.500 fine silver, 22.5 mm diameter.
