The first specimen was lot 2231 in Goldberg's NY International sale 59 (New York, January 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "20 Kopecks 1916 BC. Authenticated and graded by NGC MS 66 (# 2112955-013). Bold, crisply defined devices in near pristine fields. Superb Gem brilliant uncirculated." This is a common date of a type struck 1915-17. The previous sub-type (KM Y22.a.1) bore the St. Petersburg mintmark. Russia surrendered to the Germans in 1917 amid the chaos of the October revolution and the silver coinage quickly ceased.
