Russia 1917 20 kopeks rev H3030-25004.jpg

This specimen was lot 25004 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,937.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Nicholas II 20 Kopecks 1917 BC, St. Petersburg mint, no mint letters, MS65 NGC. Full luster, with satin surfaces beneath mottled, gold, russet, and argent-gray patina. Very rare in this Gem condition." This is a scarce date of a type struck 1915-17. The previous sub-type (KM Y22.a.1) bore the St. Petersburg mintmark. Russia surrendered to the Germans in 1917 amid the chaos of the October revolution and the silver coinage quickly ceased.

Recorded mintage: 3,500,000.

Specification: 3.59 g, 0.500 fine silver, 22.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Bitkin-119 (R1), KM-Y22a.2.
