This specimen was lot 958 in Sincona sale 19 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 36,000 (about US$45,115 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Rouble 1909, St. Petersburg Mint, ЭБ. Extremely rare as a proof!! Cabinet piece. Choice brilliant proof with most attractive rainbow patina." In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams after having been fixed at 20.73 grams since 1798. This is a scarce date for the type, which ended in 1915.
