Sincona sale 12, lot 865

This specimen was lot 865 in Sincona sale 12 (Zürich, October 2013), where it sold for 22,000 CHF (about US$28,455 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander II, 1818-1881, Rouble 1877, St. Petersburg Mint, H. Vary rare as a proof! Minor hairlines. Uncirculated proof." This type was struck 1859-85 in respectable quantities but not so many as the prior type (Dav-283). This specimen realized seven times the catalog value for a proof. Assayer's initials HΦ = Nicolai Follendorf.

Recorded mintage: 6,923,000 (including assayer HI) plus proofs.

Specification: 20.73 g, 0.868 fine silver, this specimen 20.68 g.
