Sincona sale 47, lot 2138

This specimen was lot 2138 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Russland, Alexander II. 1855-1881. Rubel 1878, St. Petersburg, HO. NGC AU DETAILS (REV DAMAGE). (Russia, Alexander II, 1855-81, ruble of 1878, St. Petersburg mint, about uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1859-85 in respectable quantities but not so many as the prior type (Dav-283). Assayer's initials HΦ = Nicolai Follendorf.

Recorded mintage: 8,067,000, most common date.

Specification: 20.73 g, 0.868 fine silver.
