Sincona sale 77, lot 3040

This specimen was lot 3040 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$97 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Alexander II. 1855-1881. Poltina 1877, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB NI. Extremely fine. Nicely toned." Altho struck in much smaller numbers than the contemporary ruble, this type struck 1859-85 has a lower catalog value. In 1886 the poltina was superseded by a fifty kopek piece weighing 10 g, 0.900 fine.

Recorded mintage: 1,034,000 (including a few of assayer HФ).

Specification: 10.36 g, 0.868 fine silver, this specimen 10.41 g.
