Sincona sale 84, lot 299

This specimen was lot 299 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 312 CHF (about US$420 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 25 Kopecks 1831, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB NG. Extremely fine."

This type was struck 1827-31 at St. Petersburg. Mintages are fairly substantial but this type is likely underpriced. The superseding type (KM C166) had a "wings up" eagle. The incumbent mintmaster was Nikolai Grachev, whose initials we have transliterated as "NG".

Recorded mintage: 484,000.

Specification: 5.18 g, 0.868 fine silver, this specimen 5.10 g.

Catalog reference: KM-C159, Bitkin 131.
