This specimen was lot 32243 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russia: Nicholas I Poltina (1/2 Rouble) 1828 CПБ-HГ AU58 NGC, St. Petersburg mint. Mottled gray patina, with underlying mint luster and reflective surfaces. Very slight rubbing on the high points. A very rare issue, with only three examples certified in all grades, by NGC and PCGS, with this piece the finest of the three." This type was struck 1826-31 in reasonable quantities but is today very scarce in nice condition. The preceding type (KM C129) is very similar but with a "wings up" eagle.
