This specimen was lot 31536 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description[[1] noted, "Carol I 5 Lei 1884-B MS62 NGC, Brussels mint. Rare quality for the issue and rather attractive as well, with moderate gray tone in the open fields and a mixture of green, gold, blue accent tone that meanders across the surfaces and contributes considerable eye-appeal. An important coin for the dedicated collector of Romanian coinage." This type was struck at Bucharest 1881-85 and is common in worn condition.
Recorded mintage: 300,000, a better date.
