Künker sale 353, lot 4130

This specimen was lot 4130 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €110 (about US$153 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm IV. 1840-1861. 1/2 Silbergroschen 1858, A. Fast Stempelglanz. Erworben am 6.9.1974. Der vorliegende Münztyp ab 1853 mit älterem Porträt und ab 1858 im neuen Münzfuß geprägt. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William IV, 1840-61, silver groschen of 1858, about uncirculated. This type with the older portrait was first issued in 1853.)"

This type was struck 1853-60. The half silbergroschen and one silbergroschen replaced all the miscellaneous billon denominations struck before the reform of 1821.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 1.09 g, 0.222 fine silver, this specimen 1.11 g.
